The kids and I got a little head cold over the weekend so I thought we should come up with some “inside” activities for a few days. I’ve actually been wanting to make this Homemade Play Dough for a while but was waiting for the right time.
I was actually putting it off a bit because I thought it would become a big project but actually (except for the flour everywhere) it was quite easy and the kids loved helping.
I made the first batches with them (each having their own) and then I did a second batch on my own and learned from my mistakes. I’ll share it all here.
Lets start with the ingredients and recipe:
Each kid had their own bowl and I helped them add the ingredients. The easy part is that you add everything together before it goes to the stove.
*** Note: Add the food coloring to the water! In the first batch I made the play dough and added the food coloring at the end, kneading it in in a plastic bag.
***Another side note: Add the glitter when it goes in the pan to warm. In my first batches I added that with the food coloring and kneading. Bigger mess.
Now the secret ingredient I added was Young Living’s Kid Scents Geneyus. It’s an essential oil that aides in young minds that are focusing and concentrating on projects.
*** Disclaimer: I do not sell Young Living Essential Oils but I know people that do so if you are interested contact me.
Overall this is some of the best play dough I’ve worked with. Its soft, smells great (due to the essential oil), doesn’t have a bunch of toxins (so if my 1 year old eats it, its ok), the recipe makes larger batches then the sizes you can buy at the store, all the ingredients you should have on hand, and I could even go on more …
