While working on the One Room Challenge for my office, I wanted to add a little spice (and function) to the bottom half of my storage unit. My storage unit is actually a dresser with two, six cube pieces set on top. The dresser portion does not have any handles, just a slanted top lip to pull open.

I’ve seen people use leather to make pulls before so I searched amazon and found a light leather that was almost pink, perfect for this space. Then, I just kind of went for it and this is what I came up with.

Materials:
– Leather Strips (here is the ones I used)
– Nail Gun OR Hammer and Nails
– Thumb Tacks

I also used a gold paint pen to pain the front of the tacks because I only had silver ones on hand.

I wanted two on each of my drawers so I measured the drawers (mine were 30 inches wide) and eyeballed where I wanted them – about 8″ in on either side seemed good to me. I marked all the drawers so I knew where to place them.

I cut my strips into 8″ strips – again this was eyeballed to begin with and thats about what it came out to. I looped them in half, and nailed them straight to the front of the drawer with two nails pretty close together. I tried placing the loops a few other ways but the way the lip of the drawer slanted in and the stiffness of the leather, this gave the best overall look of them – in my opinion.

Then I placed the tack right in the middle of the two nails to cover them – and painted them gold. Now this dresser is made of particle board (whatever “assembly required” furniture is usually made out of) so the tack when in easy and I just made it secure by hammering it all the way in. If you were putting these on a real wood dresser I would suggest those furniture tacks.

Thats it! Easy Peasy One Two Threesy – and I think they really add a fun touch!
