So this week I got started on my one room challenge with some DIY Chalk Paint and an old bookcase. On my inspo board there was a yellow cabinet that I LOVE. I thought I would recreate that look and feel by painting a bookcase I already had with that color.
Luckily due to a DIY Fail last year I had the perfect yellow already on hand – Tassel by Sherwin Williams. I made my DIY Chalk Paint out of it and went to work.
The picture above is the bookcase before – I loved the color back when I bought it because it was a brand color of my Etsy Shop business – however I have since moved on from that so …
Took about two coats and it looked great. (above picture is one coat) There was a very limited way of inserting the shelves (the little holes were only in certain spaces – not all the way up and down) so I put them in at odd levels to add a little bit more interest to an otherwise small bookcase.
I also added something a little different above the bookcase that I will use as a place to pin inspiration pictures, notes, color palettes, etc. After a little guessing game on my instagram post I gave a full reveal to show it was indeed – the support frame of a crib mattress!
Feeling good about the progress I made this week – Looking forward to the next weeks when I start working on one of the bigger projects as a collaboration with another fellow One Room Challenger!
Be sure to check out other participant’s room designs too!
