DIY Fall Wreath

October 24, 2019

If you are a DIYer, like myself, you are usually doing it yourself for one of two reasons.

  1. You can do it cheaper
  2. You want to make something EXACTLY how you want it (can’t find the picture in your head somewhere in a store)

Normally I lean towards number two. But today .. this DIY is soley because I did not want to spend $150 on a magnolia wreath.

I was wandering through the aisles of Hobby Lobby one day (as one does) and I came across this BEAUTIFUL wreath. Normally I’m not really even a wreath person but I just loved it. Then I looked at the price. $149.99. FOR REAL. Even with the 40% off coupon that is way too much money for a wreath. (when I searched for it online all holiday items were 50% off – even still it was $80)

Upon further review, I figured I could make this wreath. Not only could I make it for less, I could make it with items right there in Hobby Lobby! So I went shopping.

What you’ll need:

  • one grapevine wreath 18 inch
  • three bundles of these Magnolia leave bouquets
  • two stems of these Cream Heather Spray (I found these at walmart)
  • gluegun (possibly)

Start by plucking all the leaves off the bundles. I was pleasantly surprised while doing this to find out they all came off with a piece of wire attached – the perfect length to stick into the grapevine wreath. It made this DIY so much easier. If they did not have this I was going to use a glue gun to attach them.

I started with the green leaves, placing them all in the same direction, dispersed evenly around the entire wreath. For the most part I just worked the wire piece through the grapevine, however if any part stuck out the back I just bent it over and in.

After all the green was placed I started tucking the brown/dark red leaves sporatically around the wreath – trying to maintain an even amount throughout.

Lastly, I plucked the little white wispy flowers off the stems and tucked those in. I went for “less is more” on these ones.

At this point I loved the way mine looked so I stopped there. The original wreath had some twig like pieces too – which ARE on the magnolia leaf bouquets so you can add them. I just chose not to.

There you have it. Original Wreath: $149.99. Mine: $33.90
