If you’ve followed me for any length of time you know that I love to make play dough from scratch for my kids. A few reasons, one – its all ingredients you’ll find in your pantry and its OK if your little one eats it. two – store bought play dough dries out quickly and comes in small packages, when you make it from home the batches are larger and lasts longer.
For this summer fun project I decided to do a fun spin on the Christmas Play Dough Kits I made last December. The kids and I took a quick trip to the Dollar Tree to collect some trinkets. We decided on a construction theme and a mermaid theme. I was able to find everything we needed there. When searching for play dough kit trinkets, think outside the box. We used rocks, beads, sequins, little trucks, figurines, etc.
To start, make the homemade play dough. I have a full post on it here. Or use the recipe below:
I purchased these boxes from Amazon, they work well to house all the trinkets and play dough.
Then, let your child use their imaginations! My OCD wanted the kids to leave the kits as they were but of course they wanted to mix them all together – as they should, its all for fun!
If you make a play dough kit … Tag me! I’d love to see!
